Information

If you are looking for a complete 5.5″ lift system for your Early Bronco with all the bells and whistles look no further. This performance package is the same system that’s equipped on Hobby Horse. Our long travel suspension system is the most complete 5.5″ package you can purchase.

Hobby Horse is equipped with 36″ x 13.50″ Super Swamper TSL’s with cut fenders.

This is a long travel suspension system that excels on and off road that can fit a 36″ or bigger tire. How big you ask? Depending on how you cut your fender openings and limit your up travel, you could fit a 38″ tire with this system.

Starting at the front this system comes with the Long Travel universal shock towers, progressive 5.5″ coil spring, and long travel extended radius arm. This combination allows for a great ride, on & off-road.

For the rear, we’ve included Deaver progressive leaf springs, long-travel shock mounts, heavy-duty u-bolts, and u-bolt plates. To take care of axle wrap, this system includes a Torque Tamer anti-wrap traction bar.

The best part as far as the suspension goes is the MS2020 shock. These shocks are built specifically for the Bronco platform to handle anything you can throw at them. We spent a great deal of time dialing in this shock so you have great handling on and off-road.

For this system, you have the option of running a 0-1″ body lift or 2″ body lift depending on which towers and rear shock mounts you decide to go with.

This system comes standard with our Dual Sport Hellwig sway bar bundle. This includes front and rear anti-sway bars and our new Dual Sport lower coil retainer system. Allowing you to quickly disconnect the bar when hitting the trails giving you the best features of long travel suspension while confidently controlling your Bronco on the road in the twists and turns.

Last but not least, you have our latest and greatest Bump Steer eliminator system. This system will take all the guesswork out of properly configuring a Heim steering system for your Bronco. This steering system can be mounted Tie Rod Over or Tie Rod Under the knuckle, and when you configure the system it will come with the proper accessories to get the system installed with the best geometry. The BS eliminator also includes our Hassle-Free HD track bar, allowing for easy alignment and centering of the body over the axles.

To keep your rear axle wrap under control. We highly recommend you consider adding our Torque Tamer. This anti-rear axle spring wrap device prevents damage and failure to your rear driveshaft and leaf springs. This is a must for anyone who has a heavy foot, running 300+ horsepower, has a manual transmission, and/or likes to go on and off-road with their Bronco. Customers have stated the Torque Tamer has also made their Broncos more stable off-road and smoothed out their take-offs and shifts.

There are also several other accessories that can further increase the look & function of this system; 4″ smooth fender flares, color-matched c-caps, new leaf spring shackles, 2″ body lift, and pinion shims.

Finally, with this system if you are not installing one of our trail-rated plate bumpers, we highly recommend that you install our filler panels, these will reduce the unsightly gap that’s left behind after installing a body lift.

How to Buy

How to spec out Hobby’s Performance Package…

First, you will need to select the year model of your Bronco. The year model affects proceeding options such as the steering or correct torque tamer package.

Next, you’ll select the color that you want. Midnight Black or Duff Signature Blue.

After choosing the color you’ll be presented with the option of whether you want the 0-1″ body lift shock tower/rear mount combo or the 2″+ body lift shock tower/rear mount combo. Installing the taller tower it will allow for more articulation off-road but will require you to install a 2″ body lift.

For the steering system, you’ll be presented with 2 different options. Tie Rod Over or Tie Rod Under, refers to how the tie rod is mounted to your knuckles. For help in figuring out what is best for you and your Bronco, click here. You’ll also need to select the correct hardware for your application for the steering system. We offered tapered heim studs or our 3/4″ bolt kit.

Once you’ve worked out your steering system, you’ll be presented with the 2 leaf spring options. Before you choose your spring, you need to understand the difference between Medium duty and Heavy duty. First off the difference has nothing to do with ride quality. Our Heavy Duty spring will not give your Bronco a stiffer ride. This is simply to make sure your Bronco will sit level or at the very least not squat in the back when your Bronco is complete.

Medium-Duty springs are for 66-77 Broncos that have very few add-ons or accessories in the rear. For example, if you have a stock half cab or roadster you would choose medium duty. If you have a resto-mod wagon with a soft top, stock rear bumper, no spare tire, and stock fuel tank, with or without a back seat but not typically using it, then you also would choose medium duty springs. We do NOT recommend medium duty for trailer towing.

Heavy-Duty springs are for 66-77 Broncos that are geared more towards a well-equipped resto-mod for on and off-road use. If you have or plan on upgrading to a 20+ gallon rear fuel tank, tire carrier + tire, steel plate rear bumper, and/or want to run a hardtop, the heavy-duty leaf spring is also a great choice for your build. These are also the best option if you plan on ever towing anything with the Bronco. If you like going off-road and hitting the trails, the heavy-duty leaf springs are typically the best option for you as well.

For some of you, there will be some combination of parts that accessorize your Bronco in between a soft, medium, heavy, and extra heavy-duty setup. This is why we offer lifted spring perches, 1/2″ and 1″ lift blocks as well as pinion shims for driveshaft angle corrections to get your ride height and driveability spot on. Our new 1/2″ lift block will also offer the option to move the axle back for that perfect amount of tire to fender clearance for the uncut lifted 66-77 Broncos.

Installation Note: The Double spring Wrap aka Military wrap is to be installed towards the front of the vehicle.

The next important option will be the Torque Tamer. This anti-rear axle spring wrap device prevents damage and failure to your rear driveshaft and leaf springs. This is a must for anyone who has a heavy foot, runs 300+ horsepower, has a manual transmission, and/or likes to go on and off-road with their Bronco. Customers have stated the Torque Tamer has also made their Broncos more stable off-road and smoothed out their take-offs and shifts.

Finally, you’ll be presented with our accessories and parking brake cable options that are available for this system. Other accessories include filler panels, long travel drive shafts, Currie diff cover, and a host of other items that will make your installation much easier or improve the function of the suspension system further.
