Attention: Custom Heim Steer (5640C) is non-refundable and is sold as-is where-is. No exceptions. Most custom orders take 6 to 8 weeks to ship. You must provide measurements to James Duff after purchasing this system. Please follow the video guide below along with our measurement form.
Replace your weak, rock-rashed stock or poorly designed aftermarket steering with one of our TUFF new heim joint steering systems!
- 1.25″ DOM tubing with over a 1/4″ thick wall! 0.2815″ to be exact.
- Threaded tube (no weld-in insert) for maximum strength and clearance.
- Drag link attaches to the tie rod in the factory or best location via a welded on “saddle” maintaining factory or best geometry. NO BUMP STEER!
- Our design greatly reduces applied torque and stress on the passenger side steering knuckle.
- Included are high strength, Teflon-lined, 3/4″ rod ends with GR8 bolts to prevent binding and allow full articulation of the joint.
- Unless you buy our heim stud kit (5647/5648), it will require you to drill out your stock knuckles to 3/4″ (If you have James Duff steering knuckles, they are already machined to 3/4″). Buy our drill kit here.
- Pitman arm uses our specialized tapered heim stud (more info below)- NO DRILLING OF THE PITMAN ARM REQUIRED – Early Bronco Drop pitman arm available here, Early Bronco OE replacement pitman arm here.
- The system can be installed under or over the knuckle in your driveway or garage
- For Early Bronco over the knuckle applications – check out our Early Bronco Bump Steer Eliminator System
- Purchase our weld on c-cap mount kit for applications running a C-Cap front-mounted shock with the tie rod mounted ABOVE the knuckle
- Complete hardware kit with all-metal unitorque nuts and cotter pins to secure everything in place included.
- Comes black powder coated with detailed instructions.
**NOTE ON 66-77 BRONCOS WITH HELLWIG SWAY BARS & THIS HEIM STEER SYSTEM MOUNTED ABOVE THE KNUCKLE, SLIGHT MODIFICATIONS OF THE HELLWIG PASS SIDE AXLE BRACKET IS REQUIRED**
Our brand new tapered heim stud allows more articulation than a standard heim and we offer it in two sizes to completely eliminate drilling out your pitman arm! NOT recommended for use at the knuckle & Only comes standard now with all our on the shelf (NON CUSTOM) heim steer systems.
(For street-driven vehicles, check your local regulations before ordering. Some states will not pass inspection with heim joints in the steering system.)
Please note for 66-79 Broncos and F-150’s if you have shocks mounted to your C cap and would like to install this system ABOVE the knuckle you will likely need to purchase our weld on c-cap mounts. Steering stabilizer setups will need modification to be reinstalled.

Ryan Hubbard –
update to my previous review after install: Now that I have a few hours behind the wheel i can say that this set up is awesome. Before restoring I had terrible bumpsteer that would literally send you into the other lane of traffic at times. 100% of that has been eliminated with this kit. I hit bumps both big and small and stay straight as an arrow going down the road. I have so much more confidence and peace of mind while driving this thing now!

I purchased this kit for my 75 along with heavy duty trac bar with heim, trac bar drop bracket and trac bar riser. The quality and strength is fantastic. I have a 5.5” suspension lift and the geometry of the steering system is as close to perfection as possible with this kit. Haven’t driven it yet as I’m still in the restoration process but I’m sure it will have eliminated my previously terrible bump steer.
Can’t wait to get it back on the trails!
