Our Rides

Hi Ho Silver, Our Flagship Bronco

A 1977 Bronco, (recognizable as the only year with gas doors) It started its life as barely a driver that Mr. Duff bought in 1981 for $1800. It was stripped down over the years until 1991 when Richard Duff got the bug to build a Bronco of his own. There wasn’t much left of it at that point. He decided to make it a half cab and that’s why its roll cage is 2 parts. Now silver sports a soft top and has been molded into Suzy’s ride of choice when attending the local street cruises or other Bronco events across the country.

Pony Express

While working at a Ford dealer, Duffy scored this VERY abused 1966 half cab Bronco taken in on trade. He proceeded to strip it with the vision of a custom sand runner for the SoCal dunes.

• Channel dropped 4″ with rolled, flared and widened wheel openings to clear paddle tires for the lowest COG possible
• Smoothed tailgate with latch moved to the inside allowing a full custom mural by Duffy.

• One of the first ever 351W engine swaps

• Power steering (before it was available) with a 1961 Buick box

• 4 speed top-loader with hardened gears from Parnelli Jones’ Pikes Peak stock car

• Clutch, brake and shift levers shortened, steering column/wheel raised 3″ to accommodate body mods

• With the radiator being below the transplanted 351W, it required a firewall mounted filler

• 4.89/4.86:1 Dana 44 & 9″ swiped from a Baja Racer with cable trusses

• Shelby Mags with 33″x12.5″ All Terrains for street tires and 14″ wide custom made wheels with 2 ply grooved drag slicks for the front and 18″ wide rears with Boynton paddles for maximum flotation on the sand!

Between 2004-6 The Pony underwent a complete frame off restoration for the 40th Anniversary. The suspension was changed out to fit 35″ tires with Duff long arms, disc brakes, hydroboost, rear disc brakes, a Duff long link traction bar, single chamber FlowMasters with completely ceramic coated headers & exhaust, Edelbrock fuel injection. He recreated the paint he had done decades earlier. It was also recently outfitted with new rear paddle tires on very rare 14″ wide US Indy Mag Wheels thanks to US Mags long last back stock.

Hi Ho Loco

Silver’s crazy sister is our testbed for taking the Bronco platform down the extreme trails using our parts and putting them to the test. A 1970 Bronco with a Howell fuel-injected 408 stroker, C6 transmission and 5.0:1 Atlas Transfercase, both with custom Duff shifters.

  • The body has been narrowed 8” (see tailgate handle location or FD on grill for reference) to keep it away from damage (fairly successful as the paint and bodywork were done by James and Suzy in 2008, note the heart shapes in the skulls and similar paint job to Silver)
  • Our 5 1/2″ Monster four-link. Wheelbase stretched 2” front/2.25” rear. Coils mounted with our 5112 offset towers, custom shock hoops to account for width and wheelbase.
  • It has full width, 1-ton axles from a 1991 F-350: Dana 60 front and a Sterling 10.25” rear.
  • Currently, on 39” Red Label BFG Krawlers on Walker Evans wheels with OMF Beadlocks with maximum offset to get the track as wide and as far outside the body as possible for maximum stability and body protection.
  • Converted to rear discs with our kit because the low gears would override the drum brakes.
  • With a narrowed body, storage is at a premium and we’ve squeezed every bit in we can with Tuffy under-seat drawer.
  • Mastercraft Seats with rear-facing bench to accommodate Suzy’s most common passengers, dogs Ben and now Penny.
  • Trail doors with removable skins for maximum air movement in the heat but mud protection for the rest of the year.
  • Narrowed versions of our plate bumpers

Hobby Horse
This 1974 was the prized possession of long time family friend Rob Smithson. He was a Duff champion in the San Diego and SoCal area. So many good times, great stories and lots of laughs on the trail with Rob, whether in our vehicle or flying in and riding along. Rob had been fighting terminal cancer for two years in the summer of 2012, when he whispered to Judy, he wanted us to be the caretaker of his steed. Rob was constantly adding tech, upgrades, gadgets and gizmos, upgrading everything. People would look at Hobby and think that it wasn’t wheeled hard because it was straight and spotless, far from it, Rob played hard but definitely took the time and effort to get it back into the body shop to keep her looking her best. His circle of friends can’t actually agree on the number of times they think it was painted. One last wheeling trip got Rob to caravan with the Arthur’s to Moab for Bronco Safari to wheel with The Duffs and the Dickersons from North Carolina. He passed away 10/31/2012, James and Suzy flew out to Bronco Daze and wheeled Hobby one last time in the Anza Borrego Desert with so many of his good friends, it had a great tour headed east where they wheeled (and scratched) it at the LEBC roundup, to Virginia for the MEB Roundup and it has now been on the beach on both coasts- from California to Florida and even North Carolina. We’ve tried to continue in Rob’s upgrading ways with installing the Mastercraft reclining seats that he’d lusted after for ages and modern LED headlights. She’s also been the recipient of suspension and exhaust product developments

Nebula

This 1973 started as a stripped rolling frame in Mustard purchased for $300! What a bargain, right? Not much was salvageable… we stopped adding up the receipts on her build when we couldn’t see through the tears anymore. She’s a beauty though. The plan was a stocker we could upgrade one Duffy’s Original part at a time. First step was a 1.5″ Performance Package, that lasted a year and now she’s sporting our 2.5″ Dual Sport 4 link Suspension Package with integrated 1″ body lift.

Monster Garage Bronco

Michael acquired the 1968 Bronco that was built by Jesse James on the hit TV show, Monster Garage. Michael found it after it had traded hands a few times and was barely recognizable. In 2013 he took all his knowledge of blacksmithing, wrenching, and fabrication and resurrected it. Now, with a classic crawler built and under his belt Monster Mike was being recognized by magazines like Crawl and Bronco Driver and companies like Fuel & Maxxis Tire for front cover spreads and repping some of the newest products available on his Bronco at the biggest car & Bronco gatherings and SEMA. After doing a cyclone video in the ice in 2016, Michael came up with a new vision for the MGB, hold on tight for the unveiling of Project Dark Horse.

1996 Fullsize Bronco

Suzy picked up this low miles clean stock West coast 1996 in 2006 right down from the shop in Sequim. It was her daily driver for quite a while after the move to Knoxville. It took a few years but she finally got her turn in the garage and got a solid axle swap with long arms and became the test bed for our 6″ suspension systems. She’s our workhorse for events when ice cold AC and extra space for hauling is needed. She’s been to Moab, Colorado and the Michigan Dunes several times. 35’s

1984 Bronco II

Ordered new by James Duff, this 1984 Bronco II XLT was the test bed for our Bronco II and Ranger suspension systems. Mrs. Duff was not very pleased since she gave up her station wagon at the time to purchase it and it was immediately torn apart, leaving her to shuttle kids in a jacked up 1980 F150. James gave it one of his signature paint jobs and souped the 2.8 up with an Ak Miller Turbo and it became quite the fast little grocery getter until the 2.8 gave up the ghost. (It may have had something to do with two kids using it as their first car) Richard and Jim put a 302 in it about 1992 along with a narrowed 9″ to handle the power. It ended up getting pelted by pea gravel when a plane fired up while parked at the local airfield, and she went back to an all silver paint job with James wide fender flare design. (since discontinued)

Today- Twenty Years in Tennessee

2026 marks the 20th year since Suzanne took the reigns. Knoxville has proven to be a great home for Duff’s— closer for shipping costs for a large segment of the country and access to so many more Bronco events. Still family-led after 59 years. Still innovating. Still building the strongest, most trusted Bronco components in the world—crafted by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts.

Suzanne Duff, President of James Duff Inc., carries forward a legacy built over five decades while guiding the company into its modern era. Growing up in the Bronco community, she lived the brand long before she ever led it—wheeling, testing, attending events around the country, and helping shape the products Bronco owners rely on today.

Under her leadership, the company expanded manufacturing, modernized operations, strengthened community engagement, and relocated to Knoxville, TN—bringing Duff Tuff closer to events, suppliers, and the heart of Bronco culture. Suzanne’s vision balances innovation with heritage, ensuring that every part with the Duff name honors its roots while pushing the brand forward.

Whether behind the wheel of one of her Broncos or leading product development with Monster Mike, Suzanne embodies the passion, authenticity, and drive that define the Duff legacy. Her commitment to customers and the Bronco community remains the cornerstone of everything Duff Tuff creates.

Thanks for your interest in our history, our family and our company! We wouldn’t still be here after over 58 years if it wasn’t for our wonderful customers! We do it for the love of the Bronco and our appreciation for the Bronco family!
